Attracting Prospective Students in New Ways
College guides, viewbooks, open houses—these are some of the many vehicles that drive prospective students to Buffalo State. But with a declining pool of local high school graduates, increased competition for students from far beyond the Buffalo Niagara region, and an increasingly tech-savvy adolescent population, the college is undertaking new efforts to boost awareness and appeal.
Promoting Excellence in Teaching, Scholarship, and Service
Susan McMillen, associate professor of mathematics, was recently named director of faculty development, a newly created half-time position. McMillen will help to promote a campus culture and programming in support of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service with the creation of a Faculty Development Center.
Understanding Crime and Punishment: Sociology Conference Explores Conflict, Related Issues
“Community, Conflict, and Control” is the theme of the 56th annual New York State Sociological Association (NYSSA) conference, to be held at Buffalo State on October 17 and 18. Timothy McCorry, assistant professor of sociology and president of NYSSA, is chairing the event.
Houghton Chapter 2008–2009 Lecture Series
The Houghton Chapter, Buffalo’s branch of the New York State Archaeological Association, holds free monthly meetings every third Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Buffalo Museum of Science. Anyone with an interest in archaeology is welcome to attend.
