President Howard to Leave Buffalo State; Accepts National Higher Ed Post
Muriel A. Howard, president of Buffalo State College for the past 13 years, will leave her position at the college to become president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), effective August 1. AASCU is the leadership association of 430 public colleges and universities advocating for public higher education, including federal policies and regulations to ensure access, affordability, and opportunity for students. The association is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
Preparing Students and Faculty to Succeed as ‘Citizens of a Challenging World’
Diversity, a long-cherished principle at Buffalo State College, is beginning to be regarded as a broader concept in theory and practice. Many on campus are working to strengthen a campus culture that broadens awareness, learning, and experiences to prepare students for the global workforce.
Summer Pedagogical Institute Format Updated
Three two-day workshops are slated for this year’s Summer Pedagogical Institute, offered by the Intellectual Foundations unit of University College May 19–27. The deadline to apply is April 20.
Richardson Master Planning Process Under Way
Howard A. Zemsky, vice chair of the Buffalo State College Council and the Richardson Center Corporation (RCC), addressed the College Senate on February 13, along with Alex Krieger, a professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a co-founding principal of architecture and urban design firm Chan Krieger Sieniewicz. Their topic was the historic Richardson Olmsted Complex adjacent to the campus, on the south side of Rockwell Road.

New Chief for State College Group
The American Association of State Colleges and Universities on Tuesday named Muriel A. Howard as its new president. Howard, now president of the State University of New York’s College at Buffalo, will be the first black female—and the first member of a racial minority group—to head one of higher education’s six major “presidential” associations.
The Other March Madness: College Admission Letters Due
It’s a busy week for college-bound high school students: call it the other March Madness; nail-biting time has arrived. Tuesday is the deadline to sign up for the SATs, and later this week many seniors will be getting their admission—or denial and wait list—letters. (Interview with Hal Payne)
Dick Bihr Inducted into NYS Basketball Hall of Fame
Former Buffalo State basketball coach Dick Bihr entered another hall of fame today. Bihr was inducted into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame in a ceremony at the Glens Falls Civic Center’s Heritage Hall during this weekend’s state Federation Tournament in high school basketball.
