Professional Background
Dr. McFarland has been in the business department at Buffalo State since 2002. Her teaching interests are in the areas of marketing---specifically Principles of Marketing, International Marketing, Advertising, and Research Methods. Her research in the area of social marketing currently focuses specifically in the area of health care and Integrating Marketing Communication to African American Women about breast cancer. 

Additionally, she is conducting research related to service learning and the curriculum. She is currently a grant reviewer for the National Institute of Health; is on the Editorial Board for Qualitative Research Reports in Communication; and is the faculty adviser for the Buffalo State Collegiate Chapter of the American Marketing Association and the Undergraduate Student Government. Dr. McFarland is a reviewer for refereed papers for the AMA Marketing and Public Policy subgroup. Her recent publications are in the Business Research Yearbook for Vol. XIII, 2006; Vol. XII, 2005; Vol. XI, 2004 and the AMA proceedings for the faculty seminar 2006. Additionally, she has had published in 2004, "Improving Negotiation: A proposal for a dialogic, pre-negotiation training program to aid MNES in reaching maximum integrated outcomes while saving face and Getting to Yes," Regional Peace Studies Consortium Journal 2003-2004

She is a member of the American Marketing Association---the Marketing and Public Policy subgroup---and the International Academy of Business Professions. Her Ph.D. is from SUNY at Buffalo and she has extensive consulting and professional experience as a researcher in the private sector in the newspaper and banking industries, location analysis, and in the public sector as an economic analyst and in database/GIS development. She was the recipient of the Buffalo State College Students’ Award for the Promotion of Respect for Diversity and Individual Differences in 2004.
