The CAC will be offering both content specialty after school programs taught by Buffalo State students, as well as English language learner support program.
After School Programs:
After School Programs are taught by Buffalo State students to youth in grades 4-9. The program starts the week of Monday, September 16th and run through November 21th from 4:30-5:30pm. Contact us at email@example.com or 716-878-3289 to register your child today!
Science - Mondays 4:30-5:30pm
Taught by undergraduate and graduate teacher candidates in Robin Harris's Literacies for Teaching Science, the Science Program features weekly lessons drawing from a variety of literary activities to enhance science skills of youth.
Dance - Tuesdays 4:30-5:30pm
Buffalo State students in Joy Guarino's Creative Dramatics class teach a variety of creative movement and dance styles including jazz and hip hop.
Visual Art - Wednesdays 4:30--5:30pm
Buffalo State Art Education students in Candace Master's Functions and Practices in Art Education and Michelle Bae's Art, Society, and New Media teach classes to provide youth with meaningful and imaginative art making experiences.
Digital Writing - Thursdays 4:30--5:30pm
The Digital writing workshop is a service-learning option for students in Dennis Wojtaszczyk's Methods of Teaching Language. Youth will learn to write stories that can be filmed and edited using digital media technologies including iPads.
English Language Learner Programs:
Buffalo Beginnings-Tuesdays-Thursdays 2:00-4:00pm
In partnership with Journey's End Refugee Services, Buffalo Beginnings brings together newcomer refugee youth who have yet to begin school to learn about their new environment. This program introduces students of all ages and their parents to their new community and the American educational system.
Buffalo Public Multilingual Parent Drop-in Centers--First Mondays 4:00-6:00pm
The Drop-in Centers provide parents with access to translators speaking six languages including Spanish, Burmese, Karen, Arabic, Nepali and Somali to answer questions concerning school and family issues related to their children's education.
Advanced Reading and Writing--Saturdays, 10:00am-12:00pm
This Jericho Road Ministries' program acts as supplement to available English as a Second Language (ESL) programming offered in Buffalo Public Schools. Students who are past high school-age work with certified ESL teachers to increase English proficiency.
US Citizenship Classes
Jericho Road Ministries volunteers support recent immigrants and refugees in preparations to take the US naturalization test.
