Integrating the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning into Institutional Culture: Philosophy, Policy and Infrastructure.
This site promotes and disseminates the work of one of the thematic groups established on August 1, 2006 by The Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL). This group of seven institutions is involved in a three year collaboration to: foster inquiry and leadership for the improvement of student learning and teaching; develop and synthesize knowledge about teaching and learning; and promote institutional change in support of teaching and learning. In working toward these aims specific projects in the following areas will be undertaken:
Assessing the impact of SoTL;
Fostering and sustaining SoTL communities of practice;
Identifying and sharing best practices for peer evaluation/review of teaching;
Integrating rewards for SoTL into salary, tenure, promotion, and other forms of recognition; and
Exploring ways to use existing data on student learning such as NSSE as a basis for evidence based inquiry into student learning.
