Center for Justice and Applied Public Policy

Faculty of Applied Science and Education
Buffalo State College

Dr. James G. Fox, Director

Mission:

The Center for Justice and Applied Public Policy provides research support for the formation of contemporary public policy issues; supports enforcement, prevention, and treatment initiatives utilizing empirical evidence; serves a formal mechanism for the College in forming new alliances with the criminal justice system; and strengthens the College's ability to respond to urban justice problems and issues emerging from concerns of social justice. The center provides a new forum for channeling political, citizen, and professional concerns into a broader foundation for developing justice-related public policy initiatives and creates a foundation for integrating political and professional interests and objectives into efforts to establish a more effective system of justice. The Center also provides an interdisciplinary resource of expertise which could be used to support the formulation of public policy, provides consultation in the development of agency strategies and initiatives, and offers assistance in the accomplishment of action or applied research aimed at providing additional or new information of interest to criminal justice professionals and scholars.

Goals and Objectives:

  1. To provide a new forum for examining public policy initiatives in the administration of justice.
  2. To develop an interdisciplinary resource of expertise to support the formulation of public policy.
  3. To provide assistance in accomplishing action or applied research aimed at generating new information for policy makers, criminal justice professionals, and justice-related service providers.
  4. To pursue new linkages between the college and the community in an effort to serve the larger interests of social justice.
