Recruitment Education Retention
The Center for Excellence in Urban and Rural Education (CEURE) collaborates with school districts, collegiate partners, and community stakeholders to improve the educational and life outcomes of children attending urban and rural schools. The center supports efforts to recruit, educate, and retain teachers to meet the needs of culturally, linguistically, and economically diverse children.
Since CEURE’s inception, the center has supported more than 45 initiatives, partnering with 175 schools in nine counties, recruited over 100 Buffalo State faculty members in CEURE projects and secured federal and private grants totaling over $13 million dollars.
The general operation of the center is possible due to the sponsorship of the New York State Legislature. A variety of federal, state, and private funding supports our programs.
Dr. Aaron Podolefsky AmeriCorps Fellowship Programs
The Dr. Podolefsky AmeriCorps Fellowship programs are currently accepting applications for two different terms of service: summer 2014 – fall 2014 or fall 2014 – spring 2015.
The fellowship programs offer unique opportunities for students to gain valuable experience working with children and youth. Fellows work in collaboration with school and community partners to provide academic enrichment and tutoring to K-12 students and young adults through summer and after-school programs.
Fellows also receive course credit and a monetary education award they can apply toward educational expenses as recognition for their service. The service commitment and monetary award vary depending on the Fellowship program: 300 hours of service = $1,175; 675 hours of service = $2,114. The 675-hour positions are restricted to education majors who will be student teaching in the second semester of their term of service to fulfill service hours.
The Dr. Podolefsky AmeriCorps Fellows programs have been made possible through the generous support of Eleanor Woods-Beals and Vaughn Beals.
