Since October 2004, the Center for Excellence in Urban and Rural Educaton has partnered with AmeriCorps to select and support Buffalo State College student teachers who are interested in urban school placements for their practica.  Student teachers are required to serve no less than 10 weeks with a minimum of 300 hours of service in the school.  Additionally, they are to tutor, work in special programs with students, or complete a special service project.  Student teachers receive a stipend during the 10 weeks, and an education voucher upon completion of the program.  Students interested in participating in the program must complete an application accompanied by a letter of recommendation from Buffalo State Teacher Education faculty.  Each semester 12 students are selected to participate in the ABLE program.
