Freshmen students who are interested in teaching in urban schools are invited to enroll in the “Be a Hero, Be a Teacher” Learning Community. These students take a 12-15 hour course load where the focus is on urban education. A service learning component is also a part of the community which gives students the opportunity to work more closely with the student or families of the community where they may eventually teach.
