The mission of Buffalo State College Urban Teacher Academy is to provide an educational experience in which preservice teachers interested in teaching in high needs urban area are given specialized educational experiences that will allow them to become highly qualified teachers who will engage and motivate students and increase academic achievement. Students are provided with a unique program that will include mentors as well as community service experiences which will give them the necessary training to teach in urban settings.
The program varies depending upon the area that the preservice teachers will be enrolled in (i.e. childhood major, secondary major, special education etc.). However, there will be commonalities within these programs where students will come together to share their experiences.
