The CIS department offers a major (B.S. in Computer Information Systems), a minor in CIS, and a Masters in Education in Educational Computing. Use the links at the left to explore the requirements for these degrees.
The bachelor of science degree in CIS prepares students for entry level positions in Information Technology, and provides them with the knowledge and organizational skills necessary for a variety of subsequent career paths. CIS graduates begin in job titles like programmer, systems analyst, network administrator, Web developer, and database administrator. Unlike a computer science program, the emphasis in CIS is on current practical applications of computers rather than on theory.
The minor in CIS consists of six CIS courses: CIS151 and 251 plus four CIS electives chosen by advisement. A minor in CIS is an excellent choice for a student majoring in business, technology, criminal justice, and any other fields where a deeper understanding of computer would be helpful.
The M.S. Ed. in Educational Technology is primarily designed for K-12 educators who wish to develop and expand their skills in the educational application of computers. Emphasis is placed on the use of computers in the instructional process. It is significantly different from a graduate degree program in computer science.
