The goal of this conference is to provide professional development for faculty in the utilization of (high performance) computing tools to implement mathematical models with undergraduate students and beyond. Faculty will be exposed to the theory behind computational and mathematical modeling across disciplines with practical examples of how these models are applicable to undergraduate coursework and research in applied mathematics, chemistry, physics and biology. Faculty will learn important information about the tools themselves and how to leverage campus technology to provide a setting for (high performance) computing.
Conference highlights:
- Six talks in total on the design and implementation of computational/mathematical models with emphasis on the application of these techniques to the basic sciences.
- An introductory lecture by Nobel Laureate Dr. Herbert Hauptman , President of the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute since 1988.
- A presentation about Computational Science at the 4-year college level by the keynote speaker Dr. Jose Castillo, (Director, Computational Science Research Center at San Diego State University) during lunch.
- Faculty and student poster presentations will be in place at the end of the day. Please submit your work to Dr. Saziye Bayram ( bayrams@buffalostate.edu ); accepted submissions will be notified within a week and will be published in the online proceedings of the conference.
- A world class facility (the Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences). Tours of the CoE and UB's Center for Computational Research will be organized upon request.
- An area close to many attractions including Niagara Falls.
