Now an established medium, blogs have shaken off the dabblers and now offer an amazing array of consistent, reliable content.
College Relations launched Buffalo State's student blogging initiative, http://blog.buffalostate.edu, in December 2005. In that time, we have assisted several programs, departments, and academic centers in the creation of attractive and high-functioning blogs.
Living under the umbrella of Blog Central, our student blogs have become a popular destination for the campus community and Web visitors. Students discuss their lives, assignments, thoughts, and learning experiences in an engaging way that captivates readers and encourages comments. By placing an emphasis on frequency of posts (rather than length), students are encouraged to express their educational experience in a journal or diary style fashion.
College Relations supports the training of department blog administrators and student bloggers. We'll get your blog up and running, show you how to use it, and help you every step of the way.
Please contact Paul T. Kruczynski or Mark Norris for more information.
Interested in blogging? Here's what's required:
- A representative from your department, office, or academic center, usually the chair or primary Web contact (PWC), will request the creation of a student blog at least one month in advance of a new semester.
- Your chair or PWC will select a blog administrator-the blog administrator may be the chair or PWC if so desired. The blog administrator will act as the liaison between the student bloggers and College Relations and ensure that students are maintaining a regular and robust blogging schedule. A minimum of one blog entry/per student/per week is required. Frequency of posts draws in readers and responders to student blogs. Posting frequency will be stressed to the blog administrators and student bloggers during their training.
- Your blog administrator will select student bloggers for a single semester or full academic year. The blog administrator will inform College Relations of the names of the student bloggers within the first 2 weeks of a new semester.
- College Relations will set up the blog.
- The blog administrator will be instructed by College Relations in how to use and monitor the blog posts.
- The blog administrator will work with a member of the College Relations staff to schedule a training session for the student bloggers (to facilitate scheduling, all student bloggers are required to meet for training at the same time. Bengal Pause is recommended as a convenient time).
- After training, students must begin blogging within 1 week.
