- Presentation of roster (handout) and introduction of new and returning members
- Review of committee charge (handout)
- Review of committee's 05-06 annual report (handout)
- Review of the 2 items noted on the annual report as “without resolution.” Both items originated from the Academic Standards Office:
- General Education waivers for those seeking a second bachelor’s degree.
- Unearned E and W grades following drop/add day
It was agreed that more information is needed about GE waivers. The committee needs to review the current policy and would like to how many students attend BSC in pursuit of a second bachelor’s degree.
The committee also needs further information from the Academic Standards Office on the number of petitions submitted for unearned E and W grades, and what reasons are cited for these grades. Discussion nonetheless took place regarding this issue, which raised a number of questions about the SABRE system’s waitlist function, student responsibility, and faculty’s role in the waitlist and drop processes. - A new item presented to the committee from the Academic Standards Office was also briefly discussed:
- American Sign Language (ASL) moved to acceptance by ALL majors as satisfying the FL requirement. The current policy was reviewed (handout) and questions were raised as to why the Curriculum Committee did not originally recommend that ASL be accepted by ALL majors, rather than leaving it up to each major. The committee wishes to see the SUNY policy that is referred to in the Curriculum Committee’s recommendation. - Committee members were asked to go back to their constituencies and ask for issues that could be brought before the committee for consideration. These concerns should be sent to the committee chair before the next meeting.
- The chair will gather information pertaining to the issues currently before the committee and report it at the next meeting in November.
