Communication Graduates Dominate Alumni Awards

Four of the seven recipients of the Young Alumnus Achievement Awards for 2006 are graduates of the Communication Department. The college's Alumni Association presented the awards on October 27, 2006 during Homecoming celebrations to the following recipients:

  • Richard Baumert ('86, Broadcasting), managing director of Millennium partners, San Francisco
  • Lisa Flynn ('86, Broadcasting), news anchor, WIVB-TV and WNLO-TV, Buffalo
  • James Hill ('88), producer, ABC News, Chicago
  • Russell Griffin ('93, Public Communication), assistance vice president of diversity, MetLife, Warwick RI
  • Beverly Dunn ('92), CEO, Multilink Group, Brooklyn
  • Edward Czechowski ('95, '97), supervisor of new product development engineering, Cameron Compression Systems, Buffalo
  • Amy Pearl ('87), Managing partner, Performance Management, Williamsville

Since the Young Alumnus award was established in 2002, seven communication graduates have been named among the 22 alumni who have received the award. Previous recipients who are communication alumni include Mylous Hairston ('86, Broadcasting) news anchor and reporter, WIVB TV-4, Buffalo; Byron Brown ('83, Journalism), mayor of Buffalo and former NY state senator; and Claudine Ewing ('92, Broadcasting), news reporter, WGRZ TV-2, Buffalo.
