Registration
1. Obtain an "Application for Undergraduate Independent Study" from the department office or from the Registrar's office, and download the Letter of Agreement for Independent Project (PDF, 24 KB) or the Letter of Agreement for Independent Study (PDF, 25 KB).
2. Identify a general topic that interests you; talk with a faculty member about this and obtain his /her agreement to oversee your project or study. Do some introductory research into the topic, then write a one-page memo that provides an overview of the project, including the topic and how you plan to deal with it.
3. Submit the application form, the letter of agreement, and your memo for approval first by the academic supervisor and subsequently by the department chair.
4. After departmental approval, submit the application form to the Registrar's Office during registration or drop-add periods.
