Transfer Students

A Smooth Transition for Transfer Students

The Communication Department welcomes students transfering from other institutions. Aproximatley, one third of our majors begin their studies at community colleges or other four-year universities.

Potential transfer students should try to bring as many of the four introductory courses as they can:
COM 100 Media Literacy (aka Introduction to Mass Communication)
COM 205 Introduction to Oral Communication (aka Public Speaking)
COM 210 Introduction to Media Writing (aka Journalism Writing)
COM 215 Introduction to Visual Communication

Only these four 100- and 200-level courses can be accepted into the major from community colleges. Five courses may be accepted from four-year institutions. Transfer students use additional Communication courses from their previous schools as electives outside the major, counting toward general graduation requirements. See the list of equivalent transfer courses.

If you are considering transferring, we invite you to contact the Communication Department prior to your final semester at your current school. We will be happy to informally advise you for a smooth transition into Buffalo State Communication. E-mail the chair Ron Smith at smithrd@buffalostate.edu.
