Marian Deutschman Named Athena Finalist
Public Communication Professor Marian Deutschman was a finalist in the 2005 Athena Awards, a prestigious honor recognizing Western New York women for their professional experience, dedicated community service, and support for the goals of professional women.
The awards committee cited Dr. Deutschman's various community involvements: Alzheimer's Association, League of Women Voters of Buffalo/Niagara, Buffalo Niagara WorldConnect, Homespace Corp, and the Buffalo Niagara chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
Dr. Deutschman was the only educator among the 14 nominees for the award, presented in May. The awards event served as a benefit for the WNY Women's Fund, a collaborative program of the United Way and the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo to support programs to help women and girls in Western New York.
