Careers for Journalism Majors
Buffalo State students majoring in journalism have various career paths to choose from. Many work in the traditional news organizations such as daily, community and speciality newspapers. Others work on magazines or in Internet-based news sites. Students in the Broadcast News sequence often work as reporters or news directors with radio or television stations. Print and broadcast media throughout Western New York employ many Journalism graduates.
Additionally, journalism students sometimes put their reporting and writing skills to work in companies and organizations, working on newsletters or publicity.
Others have found that, while they may not work in media-oriented careers, they are finding success by focusing their communication skills in a variety of companies and nonprofit organizations. In such environments, they find that excellent writing often is the key to advancement into leadership and management positions.
