57 inducted into national communication honor society
Fifty-seven Buffalo State College juniors and seniors were inducted into the Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honor Society last April in a ceremony and reception in the Campbell Student Union. Attended by faculty, students and their parents, and conducted by Honor Society Faculty Adviser and Interim Associate Dean Kerran L. Sanger and Department Chair Ron Smith, the event featured a candle-lighting ceremony and keynote address by Professor Rik Whitaker.
Chartered in 2005, the college's Rho Psi chapter is one of more than 400 active chapters of the National Communication Association and a member of the Association of College Honor Societies.
Lambda Pi Eta represents what Aristotle defined as the three ingredients of persuasion: logos (lambda) or logic; pathos (pi) or emotion; and ethos (eta) or ethics.
Lambda Pi Eta's goals are to:
- Recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies;
- Stimulate interest in the field of communication;
- Promote and encourage professional development among communication majors
- Provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in the field of communication;
- Establish and maintain closer relationships between faculty and students; and,
- Explore options for graduate education in communication studies.
