Graduation Requirements
In compliance with ACEJMC requirements, the Communication Department has instituted some special degree requirements.
Non-COM Credits. Graduation with a communication degree requires at least 80 credits other than COM.
COM versus SPC. Courses associated with the professional aspects of communication are labeled COM, while courses associated with speech or media analysis/criticism are labeled SPC. In general, students may have no more than 40 credits with the COM pefix within the standard 120-credit graduation requirement. Additional COM courses are counted in excess of 120 credits.
Liberal Arts & Science. Graduation with a communication degree requires at least 65 credits in the liberal arts and sciences.
In general, this includes all courses outside the department with any prefix except the following: BUS, CTE, CIS, CRJ, EDF, EDU, ENT, EXE, FST, FTT, HEW, HPR, HTR, NFS, SAF, SLP, SWK &TEC (courses which are technical or applied in nature).
Note a few exceptions which include some courses from this prefix list which are liberal arts in nature. Courses that can be counted as Liberal Arts and Sciences include BUS116, CRJ101, EXE100, HTR100, NFS102, NFS105, SWK105 &SWK319.
