Honor Society Induction Ceremony Held
Twenty-two Buffalo State College juniors and senior were inducted into the Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honor Society last November in a candle-light ceremony and reception held jointly with the Communication Hall of Fame induction ceremony in the Bulger Communication Center.
Chartered in 2005, the college's Rho Psi chapter is one of more than 400 active chapters of the National Communication Association and a member of the Association of College Honor Societies.
The faculty voted to establish this campus chapter as a way of recognizing the outstanding academic achievement of its juniors and seniors. The chapter provides a blend of professional, social, academic and community service activities. At Buffalo State, honor society students are involved in and serve the department as student representatives on faculty committees, student mentors and liaisons and representatives of the department at college-wide open houses.
Students who are recognized by the honor society earn an overall GPA of 3.0 with at least 60 credit hours completed, and hold a major GPA of 3.25 with at least 12 credit hours completed.
Lambda Pi Eta represents what Aristotle defined as the three ingredients of persuasion: logos (lambda) or logic; pathos (pi) or emotion; and ethos (eta) or ethics.
Lambda Pi Eta's goals are to:
* Recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies;
* Stimulate interest in the field of communication;
* Promote and encourage professional development among communication majors
* Provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in the field of communication;
* Establish and maintain closer relationships between faculty and students; and,
* Explore options for graduate education in communication studies.
