Dr. Kerran L. Sanger, associate professor of communication, has been appointed associate dean of the School of Arts and Humanities.

Sanger joined Buffalo State as a member of the Communication Department in 1988. She has served the Communication Department as associate chair and as chair of numerous committees and task forces. She received the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1998 and has twice served as interim associate dean in the School of Arts and Humanities.

A member of the National Communication Association, Sanger earned a Ph.D. in speech communication from Pennsylvania State University and has published in the area of the rhetoric of protest with a focus on African American protest music.  

She has served on numerous campus committees, including the Academic Appeals Committee, the Academic Technology Advisory Council and the Orientation Steering Committee. She succeeds Dennis M. McCarthy,  who retired from the position after 14 years as associate dean and 31 years at the college.
