College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Our course credits by examination program serves students who seek recognition for achievement acquired outside conventional college classrooms. It helps those entering Buffalo State College as well as those already matriculated. College Level Examination Program (CLEP) are the proficiency exams recognized by Buffalo State for college credit. Any undergraduate at Buffalo State College may receive a maximum of 30 semester hours of credit, and with departmental approval may receive up to a maximum of 12 semester hours of credit toward a major program via proficiency examinations.

Official CLEP transcripts are required to receive college credit. Call 1.800.257.9558 to have your CLEP credits transferred and use our CEEB code of 2533.

CLEP Information for Candidates
Please note:

  1. The CLEP Exam Fee is $80.00 and is payable by credit or debit cards (preferred method of payment) or a check or money order made payable to the College-Level Examination Program.  Military members and Veterans please see "CLEP Information for Candidate" to learn if you are eligible for reimbursement of exam fees.
  2. The CLEP Exam Administrative is $20.00 and is payable by check or money order made payable to, BSC Continuing Professional Studied, on the day of the exam.
  3. If you are unable to make this date please notify Continuing Professional Studies 24 hour prior to your start time.
  4. The CLEP exam is given on the third floor of Butler Library (Cyber Quad Room 318).

Additional information about taking the CLEP test at Buffalo State

  • CLEP exams are offered at Buffalo State, typically once a month.
  • CLEP exams are computer based.
  • Exams are approximately 90 minutes in length and primarily include multiple-questions. Some exams, like College Composition, include an essay section. Language exams include listening sections.
  • Students can sit for two exams in a day.
