SUMMER MUSIC INSTITUTE 2013

This summer Buffalo State will be hosting a Summer Music Institute. The SMI is for students in grades 7 to 12.There will be two camps: Classic Camp and Jazz & Rock Camp. Students can register for either camp or both camps. Each camp will allow students to continue their musical development in an intensive two-week camp. At the conclusions of both camps student will perform at Canalside as part of the Music is Art Summer concert series.

Classics Camp
July 8 - 20, 2013, Fee: $275.00

Jazz & Rock Camp
July 22 - Aug. 3, 2013, Fee: $275.00

The Summer Music Institute provides an exciting opportunity for students in grades 7-9 and 10 -12 to continue their musical development in an intensive 2-week Summer Classics Camp. Students will participate in various ensembles, classes, and lessons taught by Buffalo State Music faculty and highly skilled professionals from Western New York.

Classics Camp is designed for experienced secondary school musicians who are (a) proficient on a primary instrument or voice, and (b) able to perform in ensembles.

Camp will include:

  • Concert Bands
  • Orchestras
  • Choirs - SATB choirs
  • Chamber Music
  • Music Theory
  • Master Classes
  • Piano class
  • Seminars

The final performance will take place on Saturday July 20th at Canalside as part of the Music is Art Summer Classics Concert Series.

In partnership with Music is Art, the Summer Music Institute provides an exciting opportunity for students in grades 7-9 and 10 -12 to continue their musical development in an intensive 2-week summer Jazz and Rock Camp. Students will participate in various ensembles, classes, and lessons taught by Buffalo State music faculty and highly skilled professionals from Western New York.

Jazz and Rock Camp is designed for experienced secondary school musicians who are: (a) proficient on their primary instrument or voice, and (b) able to perform in ensembles.

Camp will include:

  • Big Band
  • Vocal Jazz
  • Rock Orchestra
  • Combos
  • Rock Bands
  • Improvisation classes
  • Music Theory/composition
  • Piano Class
  • Master Classes
  • Seminars
The final performance will take place on Saturday August 3rd at Canalside as part of the Music is Art Summer Student Showcase.
