Academic Convocation

Thursday, September 17, 2009
Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall

Academic Convocation formally marks the beginning of the academic year and symbolizes the devotion of the faculty to teaching. The ceremony is preceded by a procession—with a traditional Scottish bagpiper leading the faculty in full academic garb—from E. H. Butler Library to Rockwell Hall.

Presentations for the President's Award for Excellence, Chancellor's Award for Excellence, awards to the college's SUNY Distinguished Professors are included in this event.

First-Year Convocation

Buffalo State welcomes first-year students to Buffalo State College during First-Year Convocation in the fall. Faculty and staff march in academic regalia or sit with other honored guests. The campus invites parents, guests, and family members to attend. A family picnic in Rockwell Quad will follows the ceremony and activities give new students and their guests a chance to meet faculty and staff and to build the Buffalo State spirit!

Honors Convocation

The All College Honors Convocation and Reception is an annual, ceremonial event recognizing students who have attained distinction through superior academic achievement. The students honored in the ceremony are encouraged, in turn, to honor one faculty member who they feel has been instrumental in their pursuit of academic success. As a part of the college’s recognition, each student is presented with a Buffalo State Honors Convocation pin.
