COPING WITH TRAUMA, GRIEF AND LOSS

You may be experiencing a number of reactions to events and uncertainties associated with the war on terrorism or the recent disasters.  Having a reaction, even a strong reaction, to any traumatic event is normal. Physical Reactions

  • Fatigue/exhaustion
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Under or over activity
  • Change in appetite
  • Nightmares
  • Muscle tremors
  • Headaches
  • Startled reaction

Cognitive Reactions

  • Difficulties concentrating
  • Difficulties solving problems
  • Flashbacks of the trauma
  • Difficulties making decision
  • Memory disturbance
  • Preocupation with the event/trauma
  • Lower attention span
  • Violent fantasies

Emotional Reactions

  • Guilt
  • Emotional numbing
  • Feelings of Helplessness
  • Overly sensitive
  • Fear/Anxiety
  • Sense of hopelessness
  • Hypervigilance
  • Anger/irritability/moodiness
