Buffalo State College is committed to assisting its students and employees affected by trauma or critical incidents that occurs on campus or has an impact the campus community. The Critical Incident Support (CIS) Team was established to coordinate and provide a variety of post-trauma related services to the college community such as debriefing, defusing, grief and loss sessions as well as general peer support. The team is not designed to address every day work or personal events that may influence an employee's or student's performance at work or in the classroom like financial concerns, relationship issues, or substance abuse. Instead, the focus of the CIS team is to provide support and intervention to assist those impacted by a traumatic event to return to their work and school related activities and minimize any long-term negative effect of the incident. The CIS team builds on the individual’s resilience factors thereby facilitating bouncing back from a difficult situation.
