The Counseling Center hosted Eric Weaver Executive Director of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention of WNY on September 8, 2011. Mr. Eric Weaver was also the 2010 MHAW Keynote speaker presentation. Eric Weaver is a retired sergeant with the Rochester, NY Police Dept. and he has developed and currently directs his own full time training business “Overcoming the Darkness” with the purpose of suicide prevention and education. Eric speaks openly about his own mental illness and episodes of severe suicidal thoughts. His message is one of hope and recovery and highlights the importance of reaching out to others and finding ways to monitor and take care of your mental health.
