Application Guidelines: Distance Programs
Guidelines for Applying to the Creative Studies Distance Programs
Students are admitted as a cohort once a year. Each cohort begins in the summer (June) and proceeds through all courses together as a learning community.
Deadline dates for application materials:
Domestic (U.S.) Applicants: February 1
International Applicants: February 1
Please contact Cynthia Burnett, distance certificate program coordinator, at (716) 878-6224 regarding your intention to apply or for specific questions regarding the distance graduate program.
Gather all your application materials into one packet and send all materials at one time to the Graduate School office.
Required materials to be submitted:
- Five (5) years of professional experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 (3.0 preferred). Applicants with international degrees must have their transcripts evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- Letter of Intent that describes your interest in the graduate program and verifies five (5) years of professional experience (serves also as a sample of your writing skills)
- Two (2) letters of reference; reference forms available here (PDF, 78KB)
- Successful review by the Graduate Admissions Committee
- Student VISA for all international applicants is mandatory. International students, for whom English is a second language, must take the TOEFL english proficiency exam.
- Graduate admissions application packet and application fee payment (your major code to fill out on form is: 6701)

Once you have been accepted into the program, you will be issued a visa. Visa questions can be directed to Dr. Jean F. Gounard, director, International Student Affairs Office.
