A Tradition in Creativity

The International Center for Studies in Creativity programs have a tradition of more than 40 years of research, development, and teaching in the field of creativity studies. Documentation of the program's effectiveness shows positive impact on students' personal and professional growth. The educational program consists of courses that can lead to an undergraduate minor, a master of science degree in creative studies, or a graduate certificate in creativity and change leadership.

Master of Science (M.S.) Degree Program
This unique program includes coursework in the development and understanding of problem-solving, leadership, decision-making, and facilitation skills. The major focus of the program is learning how to nurture, develop, and support creative behavior in oneself and in others. Students choose from among three options as culminating experiences for the degree: a thesis, an original empirical investigation; a project, a significant applied undertaking; or a comprehensive examination. This is a 33-credit-hour master of science degree (i.e., 11 courses, 3 credit hours each).

Graduate Certificate Program (GCP)
This 18-credit-hour program consists of six courses that provide a solid foundation in facilitation, problem solving, and leadership. The certificate program focuses on applications of creativity as they relate to an individual’s professional context. This program contains three introductory-level courses (500 level) and three additional advanced courses (600 level) taken under advisement. The graduate certificate program is offered through short courses and a distance course, allowing professionals from around the United States and around the world the opportunity to pursue a graduate credential in creativity.

Professionals who successfully complete the graduate certificate program may continue on for the full master of science degree (33 credit hours), as all courses in the certificate program can be applied toward the master of science degree.

Graduate Certificate Program for Professionals (Distance Program)
The International Center for Studies in Creativity offers a one-year graduate certificate program designed to provide professionals with theoretical knowledge and applied skills to become transformational leaders. The combination of summer institutes and distance courses makes this credential accessible for motivated learners throughout the world. Launched in 2001, our distance program has attracted more than 80 professionals from more than 15 countries and a dozen states.

Master of Science Program for Distance Students
Many professionals who successfully complete the graduate certificate program (see paragraph above) choose to complete the master of science degree program, as all courses in the certificate program apply toward the M.S. degree. To earn the M.S. degree, students must complete 15 additional credits.
