STUDENT TRAINEE - Customs and Border Protection Officer
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is part of the Department of Homeland Security. CBP’s priority mission is to prevent terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the U.S. while facilitating the entry of legitimate trade and travelers. SCEP is designed to provide students with work experience directly related to their academic studies, and prepare them for possible non-competitive conversion into a permanent position with the Federal government in Western New York following completion of all academic and work requirements.
During this program, students are exposed to a variety of developmental assignments within the Port of Buffalo. Student trainees will receive practical experience in the fundamentals of passenger processing, cargo processing, enforcement, and associated administrative tasks. The duties are designed to familiarize the student with agency policies, regulations and practices.
STUDENTS APPLYING TO THE PROGRAM MUST:
- Be taking at least a half-time academic course load in a curriculum directly related to Criminal Justice
- Have completed at least one-year of post-high school study (30 credit hours)
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing
- Pass a background security investigation
- Be able to successfully complete a medical examination (as necessary), fitness test and drug test
