Buffalo State’s Lehotsky, Spears Garner NJAC Football Weekly Recognition

Buffalo State’s Ryan Lehotsky (N. Royalton, OH/N. Royalton) and Greg Spears (Syracuse/Henninger) were recognized by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) as the Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week respectively after their efforts in a 56-45 season-ending victory at Brockport on Saturday.

Lehotsky, a sophomore quarterback, becomes the second different Bengal to earn NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. The business administration major completed 18 of 24 passes for 338 yards and five touchdowns. The five scoring strikes marked the most by any NJAC player this season and tied a Buffalo State record. Lehotsky, who wrapped up his sophomore season with a school-record 23 touchdown passes, currently leads the NJAC in both passing yards per game (233.3) and passer efficiency (171.8).

Spears is the third different Bengal running back to earn NJAC Offensive Rookie of the Week recognition. One week after posting his first career 100-yard game, he did it again, rushing 30 times for a career-high 175 yards and a pair of touchdowns.  The criminal justice major currently ranks second in the NJAC in yards per carry (5.6).

Buffalo State claimed the I-90 Bowl trophy with the win, defeating Brockport for the first time since 1999.  The Bengals concluded the season with a three-game winning streak to finish 4-6 overall and 4-5 in the NJAC.

Buffalo State Women’s Soccer Places Six on All-SUNYAC Team

FREDONIA, NY—The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its women’s soccer all-conference teams today, selecting a school record six Buffalo State players to the squads, including Barbara Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) and Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) on the first team.

Melissa Mahoney (Poughkeepsie/Ketcham), Amanda Sauer (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) and Ashley Mazurkiewicz (Grand Island/Grand Island) were all voted to the second team, and Jessica Andres (Honeoye/Honeoye) was named to the third team.

Kiliszek, a senior electrical engineering major, leads the Bengals offensive attack with eight goals and 22 points.  She also ranks second on the school’s all time scoring list with 89 career points and is a four-time All-SUNYAC nominee, including a pair of first team nods.

Dudish is the first-ever Bengals’ freshman to earn first team honors. The defender, majoring in criminal justice, has tallied two goals and an assist and has anchored a back end that has surrendered just 22 goals in 19 games.

Mahoney and Sauer are also both first-time selections who bolster the Bengals’ offensive attack.  Mahoney, a sophomore sociology major, leads the team with seven assists and is second with six goals and 19 points.  Sauer has established herself as a gifted finisher as a junior.  The elementary education major is third on the Bengals with five goals and 12 points.

Mazurkiewicz, a junior captain studying psychology, also garnered the honors for the first time as another one of the team’s lock down defenders.

Andres, an early childhood education major, is being recognized in her first year as a Bengal after playing two years at Monroe Community College.  The junior midfielder has three goals and an assist and has played a pivotal role in the team’s defensive efforts.

Buffalo State (11-5-3) will continue its quest for its first-ever SUNYAC Championship tomorrow in the semifinals against Plattsburgh.  The game will be played in Oneonta at 1:30 p.m. with the championship game scheduled for Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
