Configure Student Gmail in Apple Mail 4.5

The steps below explain how to configure your Student Gmail account in Apple Mail 4.5 (or lower). If you are running version 5.0 of Apple Mail, you just need to enter your student email address and password, and your account will be configured automatically.

Please Note Before you can setup your Gmail account in your email client or on your mobile device, you must first login to your Gmail account and enable IMAP. To do this, click the gear icon (options) in the upper right corner, choose Mail settings and open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab. Select Enable IMAP and click Save Changes.

1.   Open Apple Mail, choose Mail and select Preferences....

2.   On the Accounts tab, click the + button to add a new account.

3.   On the Welcome to Mail screen, fill in the settings following the example below, and click Continue.

4.   On the Incoming Mail Server screen, fill in the settings following the example below, and click Continue.

Please Note enter imap.gmail.com in the Incoming Mail Server field, and be sure to enter your entire email address in the User Name field.
  
5.   On the Outgoing Mail Server screen, fill in the settings following the example below, and click Continue.


  
Please Note enter smtp.gmail.com in the Outgoing Mail Server field, and be sure to enter your entire email address in the User Name field.
  
6.   On the Account Summary screen, make sure Take account online is checked, and click Create.
