Erie Canal Heritage Trail
(about 10 miles)
Scenic route starts on the Niagara River between Tonawanda and North Tonawanda and follows the path of the former Erie Canal east. Opened in 1825, the canal's western end point—Buffalo—soon became one of the busiest ports in the world. (800) 422-6254, www.nyscanals.gov/maps/map1.html

Riverwalk Park
(distance varies)
Paths follow the Niagara River from downtown Buffalo north through various city parks to Niawanda Park in Tonawanda. The Riverwalk connects to Delaware Park near the Buffalo State campus via the Scajaquada Creek Bike Path. It also connects to canal routes (see "Erie Canal Heritage Trail" above).
