How do I know if I’m in a healthy relationship?

 

Rights and responsibilities of a healthy relationship

I have the right to:

  • Always be treated with respect

  • Not be abused - physically, verbally, sexually, emotionally, mentally, or financially

  • Keep my body, feelings, beliefs, and property to myself

  • Have friends, family, and activities apart from my partner

  • Determine my limits and values and have them  respected

  • Say “NO”

  • Refuse to lend  or give money

  • Feel safe in the relationship

  • Be treated as an equal

  • Leave the relationship

 I have the responsibility to:

  • Respect my partner’s limits, values, and feelings

  • Refuse to abuse - physically, verbally, sexually, emotionally, mentally, or financially

  • Be considerate

  • Communicate clearly and honestly

  • Give my partner space to be his/her own person

  • Not exert power or control in the relationship

  • Compromise when needed

  • Admit being wrong when appropriate

  • Ask for help from friends, family, and other trusted people.

  • Set high goals for myself
