Stephanie Lussier Attends Smith College Panel

On July 11th, Stephanie Lussier (’03) represented the Department at Smith College’s Summer Institute in Art Museum Studies. The program’s “career discovery” sessions are designed to expose upper level college students and recent B.A. recipients to careers in Fine Arts. Each panelist prepared a fifteen minute presentation on their respective programs emphasizing curriculum structure along with each program’s expectations of applicants. Discussion of our fabulous full-time faculty, a well-integrated interdisciplinary curriculum, and the richness of collections in the Buffalo community were received with much enthusiasm. Representatives from NYU, Delaware, and UT Austin were also present.

Alumni Aid in Katrina Relief

Many of our alumni have had an important role in the restoration of artifacts and buildings damaged by Hurricane Katrina. With support from AASLH (The American Association for State and Local History) and FEMA, the following alumni were able to help as HEART (History Emergency Assistance Recovery Team) members.

MJ Davis '94 (West Burke, VT) Susan Duhl '87 (Bala Cynwyd, PA) David Goist '75 (Raleigh, NC) Paul Messier '90 (Boston, MA) Carolyn Riccardelli '01 (New York, NY) Jill Sterrett '86 (San Francisco, CA) Catherine Williams '01 (Austin, TX)

If you are interested in donating online to help in these efforts, please visit www.aaslh.org for more information.

Several alumni have been working at Beauvoir (pictured before and after the hurricane to the left) and the Jefferson Davis Presidential Library which suffered heavy damage from Hurricane Katrina. Artifact search and recovery has already begun, with restoration to begin soon.
