Philip J. Stokes

Philip J. Stokes is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Mining, Geological, and Geophysical Engineering at the University of Arizona under Dr. Ben K. Sternberg.  He was awarded the John Sumner Memorial Scholarship in Near-Surface Geophysics for his specialization in non-invasive subsurface imaging.  His specific research interests include the use of ground penetrating radar (GPR) and other electrical methods to characterize archaeological and geomorphic features at shallow depths.  He received his B.S. (2004) and M.S. (2007) in Geological Sciences from the University at Buffalo under Dr. Gregory S. Baker.  At the University at Buffalo, he was also the Program Coordinator of the Buffalo Geosciences Program (BGP), a National Science Foundation project to increase diversity in the geosciences by providing unique opportunities to underrepresented student populations.
