Houghton Chapter
New York State Archaeological Association
2007-2008 Lecture Series

The Houghton Chapter is part of the New York State Archaeological Association whose purpose is to promote archaeological and historical study and research covering the artifacts, rites, customs, beliefs and cultures of the aboriginal occupants of New York State up to and including their contact with the Europeans. All Houghton Chapter meetings are free and open to the public. All lectures held at the Buffalo Museum of Science at 7:00pm on the third Wednesday of the month.

Preliminary Program 2007-2008

February 20: Recent Excavations at the Blackmar-Eaton Site: A 19th-Century Rural Residence in the Town of Concord, Erie County, New York, by Dr. Ryan Austin, Project Director, Archaeological Survey, University at Buffalo

March 19: An Introduction to the New York State Historic Preservation Office, by Dr. Nancy Herter, Historic Preservation Program Specialist, NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation

April 16: The LAND TORTOISE and the Sunken Fleet of 1758, by Joseph Zarzynski, Underwater Archaeologist & Executive Director, Bateaux Below, Inc.

May 21: Update on Archaeology at Old Fort Niagara, by Dr. Susan Maguire, Lecturer, Anthropology Department and Dr. Elizabeth Peña, Director & Professor, Art Conservation Department, Buffalo State College

FALL CLINIC: September 19, 2008
The Art Conservation Department holds an annual clinic for artwork requiring conservation attention. Anyone may bring, BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, their art or artifacts for examination of condition without charge. If an art object warrants conservation treatment which would be useful to the department's instructional program, it may be accepted by one of the faculty. Please call the department starting in late August 2008 to make your appointment.

OPEN HOUSE: October 24, 2008 - 2:00-4:00pm
Meet department students, view works of art undergoing conservation treatment, and learn more about the Art Conservation graduate program.
