The department's teaching and research facilities include superbly equipped workshops, studios, and laboratories for each of the conservation treatment specialties taught (paintings, paper, objects, ethnographic/archaeological materials, photographs and books), and for instruction in examination & documentation techniques and conservation science. We strive to have the most up to date equipment and supplies so that all students have the opportunity to work with a wide range of materials and will be comfortable with the latest conservation techniques.
The department has its own extensive library with a searchable database that is supplemented by the college's Butler Library. The Albright-Knox Art Gallery's fine arts library is also available to department students and faculty.
The department's library and laboratory spaces are all computer-equipped. Department computers are primarily Macintosh platform and all are networked to the college's server which provides personal e-mail service, direct access to the college library and the library of SUNY at Buffalo, as well as access to the internet (including the Conservation Information Network) using a Netscape, Internet Explorer, or Safari browser. Students have access to the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe software, Appleworks, high resolution scanners and can print on a wide range of professional printers.
