Dr. Stephen Gareau, Assistant Professor

Dr. Gareau has a Ph.D. in Education (Instructional Technology) from Mississippi State University, an M.A. in Educational Technology, an M.S. in Civil Engineering, an M.S. in Creative Studies, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Before working in education, Professor Gareau worked for 12 years as a computer programmer/analyst in business and industry, and as a multimedia developer in government. He has taught in graduate instructional technology programs at North Carolina A&T State University and at McNeese State University (Louisiana). His current courses include Instructional Technologies (EDC 601), Authoring for Educators (EDC 604), Networking for Educators (EDC 594), and Creative Thinking and Instructional Technology (EDC 594). Professor Gareau’s research interests include service learning, scientific creativity, the relative effectiveness of instructional media and the use of the Internet to promote community sustainability.
 
Dr. Ruth Xiaoqing Guo, Assistant Professor

Dr. Ruth Xiaoqing Guo earned her PhD in Technology Studies from the University of British Columbia. Dr. Guo has taught courses in teacher education programs at the University of Ottawa and the University of British Columbia. She also has over 10 years of experience teaching at Chinese universities. Dr. Guo’s research interests include integrating technology into curriculum, digital divide, constructivist pedagogy, video ethnography, multiliteracies, information and communication technology (ICT) literacy, and ICT assessment. She is an active member of various professional associations, including the American Educational Research Association (AERA).
 
Dr. John Thompson, Associate Professor & Coordinator

Dr. Thompson has a Ph.D. in Education Administration from the University at Buffalo,a M.A. from the University of Rochester, and B.A. from Binghamton University. He has nearly 40 years of experience in education. His career has included P-12 teaching and administration, and working in government and the private sector. Dr. Thompson has received grants and has made many local, state, national, and international presentations. His current interests include the Internet and Web 2.0 applications in the educational environment. Dr. Thompson coordinates the Educational Computing program and also teaches courses (EDC 594, EDC 672, EDC 707, EDC 690) in the program.
Adjunct Instructors
Dr. Anthony Nowakowski, Professor Emeritus

Dr. Nowakowski has a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education, a M.A. in Mathematics, and a B.S. in Secondary Education. He has over 40 years' experience teaching physics, mathematics, and computer science/computer information systems courses on the secondary, junior college, and college levels. Dr. Nowakowski's current interests are in the areas of: programming in the Window's environment, multimedia, and the Internet. Recently taught graduate courses include: EDC500, EDC601, and EDC690.
Ms. Melissa Miszkiewicz

Melissa Miszkiewicz is the director of academic computing and technical services at Buffalo State College, working for the State University of New York in various roles since 1991. She began her career in higher education at Empire State College where she successfully started up operations for the college's Workforce Development in the western region of New York State. Ms.Miszkiewicz was the director of the online MBA program in the University at Buffalo's School of Management. Upon concluding her work on this program, she accepted a position with UB's School of Dental Medicine as Director of Academic Services where she was responsible for developing the school's
electronic curriculum. Ms. Miszkiewicz holds a B.A. in English Literature from the
University at Buffalo and an M.S. in Curriculum Development and Instructional
Technology from the University at Albany.

Mr. Richard DeGlopper

Mr. DeGlopper had over 30 years' experience in public education as a classroom
teacher, building administrator, and District Level Director of Technology with the
Kenmore-Tonawanda School District. He has presented at state and national technologyconferences. He has also served on technology advisory boards for major hardware and software companies as well as for Erie I BOCES. Mr. DeGlopper is a product of Buffalo State College having earned his BS and MS degrees, and his SAS and SDA certifications, at Buffalo State. During his tenure at Kenmore-Tonawanda, he was responsible for initiating many innovative programs. In addition to his teaching at Buffalo State, he also is a representative for Tool Factory, which has special needs software, and does digital camera training.

Ms. Lisa Dubuc (Pirinelli)
Lisa Pirinelli, Adjunct Instructors

Lisa Dubuc has an M.S. degree in Educational Computing and a B.S in Economics from Buffalo State College. She is a professional in the field of online teaching and learning and serves as the Multimedia Instructional Designer and Coordinator of Distance Learning at Niagara County Community College. In this capacity she's worked with over 100 teaching faculty within the SUNY system and assisted in the creation and instructional design of over 75 online courses. She has created and taught numerous online courses at NCCC, Buffalo State College, and for the SUNY TLT Cooperative Professional Development Program. She also serves as a program associate for the SUNY Teaching, Learning, and Technology Program.

Deborah F. Daly

Deborah Daly brings a wealth of experience to the Computer Information Systems Department.  She has been at Buffalo State College since 1992 working at Campus Services 8 years; Equity and Diversity 5 years and most recently 2 years at Educational Foundations (Adult Education; Business & Marketing; Career & Technical Education; Educational Foundations; Student Personnel Administration and Project Flight).

She has previous experience at SUNY Buffalo working in the following departments: Computer Services; Dean’s Office-School of Nursing; Modern Languages; and Bio-Chemical Engineering.
