Entering a Web site Competition called ThinkQuest
ThinkQuest is a competition sponsored by the Oracle Education Foundation. Here teams of students enter and compete against other teams of students from all over the world. The competition is to see which teams can create the best educational Web sites. ThinkQuest is an exciting way for students to complete group research on something that they enjoy as they have fun using technology to create a Web site.

This presentation will discuss what a ThinkQuest is, how to create a ThinkQuest team, and what is involved in entering the competition. Feedback from a ThinkQuest student team and a first year coach will also be provided.

Using Technology in the Art Room
So where do you begin? Some feel that technology in the art room means that students no longer can be creative. Nothing could be farther from the truth! This presentation focuses on creative, practical applications in the art room. You will see actual examples of artworks created in the classroom, as Jill explains several types of hardware and software that can be used in the classroom. You will acquire a repertoire of ideas for your own school, as well as many, many resources you can consult to further your knowledge.

NetSmartz-Protecting Children and Teens Online
Throughout the presentation are video vignettes featured from the NetSmartz website. NetSmartz was developed in conjunction with Boys and Girls Clubs of America and is an interactive educational resource for children, parents, educators and law enforcement. The goals of the Workshop are to enhance safety awareness of children, to prevent victimization and to increase children's self-confidence while online. While information is shared detailing the problem of online victimization, the focus of the presentation is providing concrete resources to children, parents and educators. Educational resources are adaptable, allowing educators to customize the materials to meet individual needs and time constraints.

Podcasting 101 - Creating, Publishing and Distribution
Learn how to create podcasts using a variety of programs and tools. Publish your content so that students, parents or faculty can view your content on their classroom or home computer and then deliver new content to the same machines automatically using RSS feed

Windows to Your World
How do you look to the rest of the world? Your Web site reflects your organization. What makes a good Web site and how do you go about designing one? This workshop will review quality Web sites and allow you to try your hand at making one with simple editing tools available free or already part of your PC software.

Integrating Technology-How to engage the reluctant teacher-Free and Easy
Teachers need to see themselves as “agents of change,” advocating what is in the best interest of their children. Teachers need to collaborate with colleagues to appreciate fully the advantages technology integration can offer teaching. Participants in this workshop will create an individualized PowerPoint template with a comprehensive plan to engage teachers in their school or district in technology integration. Teachers will create e-mail addresses, sign up for free educational technology publications, create and moderate a free listserv, and register for free resources that encourage collaborative learning.

How to eliminate PowerPoint-lessness
Learn to use action buttons to create a non-linear presentation, turn a picture into a hyperlink, summary slides, make clip art or words move on a path, change the color scheme, & use presenter view (shows all slides, a timer, your notes, etc). We will also discuss how to have student presentations use higher order thinking skills.

NYLearns.org: Enhancing Teaching and Learning
NYLearns.org is a standards-based, educational Web site that offers resources to enhance teaching and learning. Along with exemplary educational resources, the site features several tools that can be used to enrich instruction, assessment, and communication within the classroom - ultimately impacting student achievement!

The 21st Century Interactive Classroom
Participants will explore the Promethean ACTIVboard and its award-winning ACTIVstudio lesson design software in this hands-on, fun-filled session. Peripheral devices including the wireless ACTIVslate and the integrated ACTIVvote student response system will be utilized in creating sample lessons.

Understand how the scanner, digital camera, and other peripherals work separately and in the context of various software applications. This presentation will take place in a computer lab. b.

Effective Internet Safety Training for Middle Schoolers using WebWiseKids
Lake Shore Central Schools implemented the Internet Safety program "Missing" from WebWiseKids.org. Learn what make this implementation program a school and community success. See how the program works and how instruction with Middle School students is done through the "Missing" program.

Words & Pictures in Motion
Digital video software doesn't always require actual video footage to create finished products. See how you can incorporate text, pictures and sounds to create a fun video that your students will enjoy creating. (And you will too!) This workshop will also show you how to creatively add transitions and effects.

Using Blogs in the Classroom
This workshop will define web logs and discuss ways to integrate blogs into classroom lessons. Other topics will include blogging in schools and using blogging software.

Electronic Portfolios
This presentation focuses on the use of digital media to create, organize and maintain student portfolios. Participants will explore current practices in portfolio design and assessment while learning to use digital equipment to record, store and organize student artifacts.

Accessible Books and Formats for Students with Special Needs
Students with special needs benefit from learning materials in multiple formats. This presentation will be an overview of multiple texts formats. It will include information on DAISY book readers, computer based technology and resources for use with text for students at various grade levels.

Get an iLife
This hands on workshop will integrate educational uses of iLife while providing educators with the practical know how that will enhance their ability level in using iLife (iPhoto, iTunes, iDVD, iMovie). Participants should bring, if available, a music CD, a digital camera, and/or a digital video camera.

The One Computer Classroom
In this workshop teachers will explore different ways to integrate technology in the one computer classroom through the use of Web sites and discussion on classroom management techniques and teaching strategies.
