Entering a Web site Competition called ThinkQuest

Description:
ThinkQuest is a competition sponsored by the Oracle Education Foundation. Here teams of students enter and compete against other teams of students from all over the world. The competition is to see which teams can create the best educational Web sites. ThinkQuest is an exciting way for students to complete group research on something that they enjoy as they have fun using technology to create a Web site.

This presentation will discuss what a ThinkQuest is, how to create a ThinkQuest team, and what is involved in entering the competition. Feedback from a ThinkQuest student team and a first year coach will also be provided.

Bio:
Dawn Marcinkowski is a middle school math teacher at Casey Middle School in Williamsville, NY. Her previous teaching experience was in Buffalo, NY teaching at the middle school level. She is an Educational Computing Graduate student at Buffalo State College. She is a beginner at integrating technology in her classroom.

Learn how to find WebQuests on the Internet. Also learn how to develop and create your own WebQuest.

Bio:
Sandra Kramer has conducted many workshops for MS Word, presented on MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Computer Concepts. She has also done many presentations on WebQuest development. She has over 10 years experience working with technology and 9 years experience with computers.

Using Technology in the Art Room

Description:
So where do you begin? Some feel that technology in the art room means that students no longer can be creative. Nothing could be farther from the truth! This presentation focuses on creative, practical applications in the art room. You will see actual examples of artworks created in the classroom, as Jill explains several types of hardware and software that can be used in the classroom. You will acquire a repertoire of ideas for your own school, as well as many, many resources you can consult to further your knowledge.

Bio:
Jill Cornell-Slater has been an Art Educator for 9 years. She currently teaches Videography and Computer Graphics at Akron High School. Jill has presented many workshops in her district for NY Talks, and consistently seeks practical uses of technology for her students. She teaches many graphic programs, including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Image Ready, Macromedia Flash, and Microsoft Suite products. You can view her High School Art Web site here
