Course Approval
How can the student make sure the course work from the host campus counts in the home campus program?
Under a consortium agreement, work completed on exchange must be credited back to the student's academic program at his/her home college or university. Approval for host campus course work should be obtained before the student leaves the home campus. Most campuses have forms to accommodate that process. NSE refers to such forms as advising agreements. (see NSE Handbook Sections 14.8 and 15.9.4)

Advising Agreement
Who should sign an advising agreement?
NSE recommends that the academic advisor, major department chair, student, and NSE coordinator all sign and have a copy of the agreement. Some campuses may have the registrar or transcript evaluator also sign. A copy should be filed in the student's official record. (see NSE Handbook Sections 14.8 and 15.9.4)

Resident Credit at the Home Campus
Does the work completed on exchange count toward resident credit on the home campus?
Resident credit is determined by the home campus. Most campuses count NSE exchange work at the host campus as time in residence at the home campus, but it is a campus decision.

Exchange Period
Are there time limits for exchange?
An exchange is limited to one calendar year in total but not necessarily consecutive terms. Exchange beyond the equivalent of one calendar year is not permitted. (see NSE Handbook Sections 12.1.3 and 15.9.10)

Extending Exchange
Is it possible to extend an exchange?
An exchange of less than a calendar year may be extended to total no more than a calendar year as long as both the home and host coordinators agree to it in writing. Extending to a period greater than a calendar year is a violation of NSE policy. (see NSE Handbook Sections 12.1.3.1 and 15.9.10)

Multiple Campus Exchange
Can a student go to more than one campus?
Going to more than one campus is permitted and workable as long as the cumulative total period of exchange does not exceed one calendar year. For most students, an academic year at a single campus is the best option. Clear and definitive academic goals should be determined if a second campus is being considered. (see NSE Handbook Section 12.1.3.2)

Refunds
How are refunds handled?
Policies affecting refunds are tied to the institution to which the tuition fees and/or room/meals have been paid. Home and host campuses may also have specific regulations for NSE students.
