NSE Handbook
What is the NSE Handbook?
The NSE Handbook is a loose-leaf, reference manual that details NSE's goals; benefits; terms of participation; administration and governance; membership; services; coordinator responsibilities; administrative calendar; campus exchange considerations; policies and procedures for outgoing, incoming, and returning exchange participants; policies and procedures for placing students; conference attendance; financial aid policies and procedures; access to special program opportunities; attrition; risk management; and dealing with unpredictable circumstances. The NSE Handbook is updated as required and changed sections are then distributed to campus coordinators.

ATTENTION
What is the ATTENTION mailing?
ATTENTION is a periodic newsletter from the NSE Central Office that communicates matters of common interest, timing, and need. Requests for information are frequently included. The newsletter is designed to help coordinators manage their program more efficiently and keep them synchronized with consortium-wide activities.

NSE Directory and Poster
How many NSE Directories and posters should I order?
Deciding on an appropriate number is not an exact science. A recommended amount is 300 NSE Directories and 50 posters for each 10,000 students enrolled at your institution. You can modify those numbers from experience with your campus. The Fort Wayne Office can advise you on how many NSE Directories and posters your campus ordered in the previous year.

Use of the NSE Directory
What is the best way to use the NSE Directory?
Most coordinators use posters and other advertising pieces that draw students into general information sessions or the NSE office where they receive the NSE Directory. It is a good practice to skim through the NSE Directory with interested students so they know what it contains and to outline terminology and procedures. Coordinators should distribute campus-developed applications as well as campus-specific policies and procedures for program participation along with the NSE Directory.

NSE LISTSERV
How do I access the NSE ListServ?
The National Student Exchange expects each coordinator to subscribe to the NSE ListServ. Directions for doing so are found in the inside cover of the NSE Coordinator Directory. Assistance is available from the NSE coordinator at West Virginia University who maintains the ListServ for NSE.

Campus Detail Information
How can I know about deadlines and contacts on other member campuses?
Each fall NSE publishes Campus Detail Information (CDI), a page of information from each member campus as it specifically relates to incoming exchange students. The CDI informs students of what to expect from the host institution in relation to admissions materials and deadlines; registration procedures and timing; housing applications, deadlines, and deposits; billing schedules; deferment options; mandatory fees; health records and immunization requirements; and GPA required by the host campus for continuation in the program. This information should be shared with students as they are exploring and selecting potential exchange campuses. Once placed, students should be given a copy of the CDI of their host campus.

NSE on the World Wide Web
How does NSE connect to the World Wide Web?
The National Student Exchange maintains two sites on the World Wide Web. This site provides general information for participating students and prospective members as well linkage to the home pages for all NSE member colleges and universities. The second site (www.nse.org) is restricted by password to individuals who coordinate NSE at member colleges and universities.
