James Astrella received his M.F.A. in advertising design and a B.F.A. in advertising design. With early experience in agencies as an art director/designer in Syracuse and Buffalo, he began teaching advertising and graphic design at Buffalo State in 1983. At the same time he and a copywriter friend opened a design studio, The One Delaware Group, doing work for international clients such as Delaware North Companies, Sportservice, and Phillips Electronics, among others. In the following years, Professor Astrella won several regional and national juried awards. In 1994 he was presented with the prestigious Osborne Award by the Art Directors/Communicators of Buffalo for “professional achievement and impact on the Communication Field of Western New York.”
