How to Apply

Special Admissions Requirements

All freshmen and transfer students are first admitted to the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD). Transfer or undeclared students desiring to major in Dietetics must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on previous college credit. Undeclared students or those changing major to Dietetics must fill out a Change of Major form available in the department.

Students in DPD can fulfill the academic requirement for graduation with a B.S. degree in Dietetics but must apply to a dietetic internship or pre-professional practice program (AP4) to fulfill the supervised professional practice requirement. Upon completion of both, an individual is eligible to take the registration examination. Passing the registration examination earns the credential of "Registered Dietitian."

Graduates from the DPD may pursue graduate studies in Nutritional Sciences or apply to various health professional schools including medical school. The Buffalo State College offers Pre-Health Program, and students in the DPD may affiliate with the program while majoring in Dietetics.

Admission to Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD)
All students with sophomore, junior or senior status meeting the eligibility requirements must apply for admission to the program during the designated period. Eligibility requirements are : minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 and completion of prerequisite courses - BIO 308, BIO 309, CHE 111, CHE 112, CHE 321, CHE 322, NFS 100, NFS 102, NFS 230, NFS 200, NFS 110, NFS 302, NFS 315, PSY 101, and SOC 100 prior to beginning the program in the fall.

Selection is based on GPA, completion of prerequisite courses, biographical sketch, personal interviews, faculty/employer recommendations, and various other activities. Up to 16 students can be accepted into this program each year. Individuals interested in applying to the coordinated program must contact the department for application details. These are available by December 1 of each year; completed forms must be returned by the end of the first week of classes in the spring semester.
