Computing Facilities

The department supports several computer labs. The largest computer lab houses 12 Dell PC's and four eMac computers. It is available to all students registered in earth science classes, and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. The computers have CD-RW drives, access to students' network storage space, and front mounted USB ports for key chain "Jump drives." Students have access to basic software such as Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer. The lab also has specialty software, including graphics programs, to support course work and student research. Students can print for free.

The department also has three smaller computing facilities within our faculty research labs. The Laboratory for Orogenic Studies has two computers for student use, the geomorphology lab has six workstations, and there are additional computers in the sedimentology lab.

The department has recently purchased a GeoWall system capable of projecting 3D images and simulations that will soon be set up in one of our classrooms.
