Environmental Science (Minor)
About the Program
The environmental sciences minor is an interdisciplinary program which can be elected by any student. For example, students majoring in natural or social sciences, in education, or in journalism can all gain a broadly based environmental background in this minor.
Program Requirements
No more than two lower division (100 or 200 number) courses may be counted in this minor. Several of the courses have prerequisites. Thus, proper program planning is critical.
Chemistry (3-4 cr).
Choose one of the following:
CHE 100 Chemistry and Society (3 cr, math/science core)
CHE 101 General Chemistry (3 cr, math/science core)
CHE 111 Fundamentals of Chemistry I (4 cr, math/science core)
CHE 315 Environmental Chemistry (3 cr, general education elective)
Biological Component (3-4 cr).
Choose one of the following:
BIO 104 Environmental Biology (3 cr, math/science core)
BIO 315 Ecology (4 cr, general education elective)
Physical Environment Component (3 cr).
Choose one of the following:
GEG 101 Man's Natural Environment (3 cr, social science core)
GES 111 General Oceanography (3 cr, math/science core)
GES 223 Environmental Earth Science (3 cr, math/science core)
Human-Environment Component (6 cr).
Choose two of the following:
SCI 231 Pollution, Environment and Society (3 cr, math/science core)
GEG 307 Conservation and Environmental Management (3 cr, social science core)
ANT 308 Archaeological Method (3 cr, general education elective)
SOC 341 Sociology of Human Ecology (3 cr, general education elective)
ECO 355 Economics of Energy and the Environment ( 3 cr, general education elective)
PSY 370 Environmental Psychology I (3 cr. general education elective)
Field-Based Component (3 cr).

SCI 335 Outdoor Science Education (3 cr, general education elective)
