GLOBAL BOOK PROJECT

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION AND READING

The Global Book Hour - a partnership between the Elementary Education and Reading Department and Wegmans on Amherst Street - began spring 2010 in an effort to promote family literacy and global awareness through a weekly book-hour program for the community.

The Global Book Hour integrates geography, music, visual art, and healthy eating. Buffalo State undergraduate- and graduate-level teacher candidates provide an interactive read aloud, offer reading strategies and activities for the families, and ensure that every child leaves each session with a copy of the multi-cultural book that was read.

For an hour each week, neighborhood children have the opportunity to read - for pleasure! - and also to have a healthy snack provided by Wegmans Chef Jason and Amy Pastore.

The Global Book Hour is directed by Buffalo State professors Dr. Kim Truesdell and Dr. Pixita Del Prado Hill, as well as many teacher candidates. Support is also offered by PDS Director, Leslie Day, and her PDS student representatives.
